Feeding the Nation: How we are responding to Covid-19
For many of us, life seems to have ground to an almighty halt. Here at Asda, quite the opposite is the case as we strive to keep the nation fed through these anxious and uncertain times. We are doing as much as we can to keep our customers and employees safe, whilst also responding to the rapidly changing situation. From ensuring our heroes, the frontline NHS staff and key workers have exclusive shopping hours, to implementing contactless payments and Volunteer Shopping Cards, Asda are committed to feeding the nation through this pandemic!
Our number one priority is ensuring the government’s policy on social distancing is being implemented in all our stores, to keep our customers and colleagues safe. We are also doing as much as possible to ensure the most vulnerable and our key workers are able to access essential items.
Volunteer Shopping Card
We are feeding the nation with the introduction of the volunteer shopping card so we can ensure EVERYONE – the medically vulnerable, those self-isolating, the elderly, have access to essentials. The volunteer shopping card is a contactless, safe and secure way to allow others to shop for you.
Store opening hours
To support our local superheroes, the NHS workers and care workers, we are prioritising them in our larger stores every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8am to 9am. As well as Sundays from 9am to 10am for browsing.
We have also temporarily reduced the normal opening hours of our stores to either 8am to 8pm or 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday to ensure we can clean and fully re-stock our shelves. You can check your local store opening times on the Asda Store Locator which is updated with the latest information.
In addition to the above, we have placed purchasing and customer limits in our stores, we have closed the rotisserie and pizza counters to prioritise getting essential products on our shelves and we have implemented Perspex screens on the checkouts and kiosks to protect our colleagues.
Gift card and e-gift card redemption for online grocery shopping
To support our customers who need home deliveries for groceries, we are the first supermarket to enable gift cards and e-gift cards of any value to be redeemed for online grocery shopping.
